allow personal information to be redacted from letters when made public
Say you have a letter from 10 years ago, it's an all-around hallmark heartwarmer and it deserves to be shared with the world. Maybe 15 year old you recounts the story of how Uncle Phyllis and Aunt Paul took you to make snow angels outside 123 Home Street, or maybe the story is a little more sensitive. The only issue is, in an effort to remind yourself of the memory you've also written their full address, phone numbers and parents' maiden names. Oops!
Could this be solved with a simple "Make letter public with censors"? My suggestion would be that users could highlight select parts of the letter and create a public copy of the original letter with the information removed, without users being able to directly edit or significantly change their message. The original copy would remain private and only accessible to the writer/recipient.
(for example, a lay reader would see something like "Dear FutureMe, I'm writing from [REDACTED: address] which is my first ever house, yay! Uncle [REDACTED: personal information] came to visit today and he thinks it all looks great.etc, etc.") or the information could simply be covered with a black bar, I have no idea how coding works so I am unsure what the easier option is!
Hope this makes sense!
